Roommates and zombies and secrets, oh my!

In my last post, I mentioned that my next bulletin board for my floor of the residence hall was going to be zombie-inspired.  I probably should have mentioned that I meant Plants vs. Zombies-inspired.  (Sorry if this disappoints you.)

Anyhow, this is my second year as an RA, so I figured I'd share some of my favorite bulletin boards that I've made.  Here goes...

Plants vs. Zombies
The Big Bang Theory
PostSecret

For those who don't know what PostSecret is... In a nutshell, the creator (Frank Warren) invites people to anonymously send in postcards with their secrets (funny, serious, etc.) to him.  Some get posted on his website (postsecret.com) or are published in books.  The secrets get updated every Sunday.  Once they're gone for the week, they're gone.

Fun fact:  I tweeted a picture of my bulletin board to Frank Warren's Twitter (@postsecret)... And he retweeted it (which made my day).

I always try to make somewhat entertaining, yet informational boards, and I love making them.  I'm not sure what I'm doing for the next one yet, but I've got about a month.

  2. Very cool. I remember helping my husband (boyfriend at the time) make those bulletin boards when we he was an RA. Ours never turned out as cool as yours those.

  4. Those are pretty great. I can imagine myself having stood at the PostSecret board for twenty minutes reading them all. :-)

  5. And then you have those lazy RAs who slap a dry erase board on the bulletin board canvas and call it a day. You have come far since your training, young padawan.

  6. I absolutely love the Big Bang one. So awesome. I have some friends who are RAs and they've come up with some creative boards, but these are pretty epic.

  7. Emma: I'm pretty sure it was my most popular one last year. :D

Shane: But that dry erase board also contained zombies, if I'm not mistaken, which made it that much cooler. (And, hey, at least it wasn't two pink balloons taped to a board.) :P

Sarah: Thanks! I love making my boards fun. I'm planning an Angry Birds-themed one for next month. Well, technically, this month. :)

  8. I think they're awesome! I was very addicted to plants v zombies for a while, and I also love big bang theory. I'm a bit unfamiliar with the whole RA thing, but it looks like whatever that is you're a cool one :)

  10. Never lived on a dorm, so I don't know much about it.. but your boards look awesome.

Also, congrats on getting your tweet retweeted by Frank Warren.. I got one of mine retweeted by Fuse TV and pretty much flew over the moon. It was kind of ridiculous.

  11. Lozzz123: I'm trying to think of best how to describe what an RA (resident assistant) is without writing a paragraph... Basically, I'm a resource for a floor of college residents in a res hall, I supervise them to the best of my ability, hold programs, help them with issues, etc. (In essence, I'm a mom to 71 residents!)

Cherie: Thanks! As part of being an RA, one of my duties is to make a new set of bulletin boards every month. I just try to make them fun, yet informational. (And congrats on your retweet!)
